As far as incredible stories go, Neil's is up there.
Figment coffee was started in 2017 by Neil Glover after what sounds like a hellish few years of legal battles, being sued for millions of dollars in the US!
We talked to Neil in December 2023 and he told us about how Figment started after enjoying a “life changing latte” in the states while battling for his life in court.
The latte was totally unlike the commercial stuff we've been sold for decades, it was smooth and tasty. After that moment, Neil immersed himself in the speciality coffee world and thanks to some friendly folk at Greenway and Ascension, he was able to get hands on behind the scenes.
I won't go into detail, it's Neil's story and he tells it well on their website (the video is definitely worth a watch!).
The whole idea of Figment is to recreate that magical coffee that was a turning point in Neil's life, the coffee shop aims strives to be a place of refuge and connection while fuelling up with incredible coffee and some tasty food.
Neil has obviously been through a lot (you'll be happy to know he won the court case!), it must have taken immense strength to balance everything and have the drive to push yourself and your life savings into this new world, yet he's such a friendly, humble guy.
Look past Neil's crazy story, though, and you'll see a duo who care deeply about the journey from farm to cup. They both were lucky enough to complete some farm visits during their origin trips to Ecuador and Colombia.
Not only that but their packaging is fully recyclable (all of it, not only part of it!) in your home recycling bins and to quote Dave: "their coffee is insane".
We didn't manage to meet in person yet, but I'm looking forward to buying Neil a beer, listening to some crazy stories about being sued but more importantly what the future holds for Figment coffee!
