BIG DOG COFFEE

big dog coffee roasters shop

Big Dog Coffee Roasters was started by Huw in 2020, situated in the picturesque countryside location of Ebbw Vale in the South Wales valleys. Huw is a super down-to-earth guy and when you talk to him, his sense of community really shines through.

They even organise community coffee-fuelled dog walks starting from their coffee shop on the high street in Blackwood.

You’re probably wondering what’s behind the name. Easy, the cutest pup ever! Clyde was the inspiration behind Big Dog Coffee. Three words spring to mind when thinking of Clyde; loyal, trusting, companion. All of these qualities you need from your speciality coffee roaster and so the journey started!

When we first spoke to Huw, they were in the middle of moving the location of the roastery, which is separate from their coffee shop in Blackwood, Wales. It’s a Besca 10kg… So good luck to them!

Huw and the team have a strong stance on ethics in the industry. Taken from their website:

In short, ethics are facilitated by relationships and trust. All our green coffee beans are procured via direct or fair-trade certified importers. All of which are Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified. Speciality coffee is a community of growers, exporters, importers, roasters, independent cafes and consumers striving for quality; achieved through connection.

Everyone can say they care about ethics but it’s great to see what it means in practice.
