Meet Elvis Reinerio Tineo Rafael, a dedicated second-generation coffee producer from the El Diamante region of Jaen. Elvis personally owns three hectares of land, where he grows bourbon, caturra and catuai coffee varieties. His farm, perched at an altitude of 1600 to 1900 meters above sea level, benefits from the unique micro climate this height offers. Elvis, along with his family, manage the land as a team. They take charge of the entire process, from picking and processing the coffee to drying it, utilising shared facilities. Over recent years, Elvis has been steadfast in his mission to elevate the quality of his coffee. His endeavours include enhancing the picking quality and exploring different pre-fermentation and fermentation techniques. His commitment to quality has seen him participating in the esteemed Cup of Excellence competition for two consecutive years, securing the 7th place in 2018 and a commendable position in the top 30 in 2019. El Diamante is one of the areas closest to the city of Jaen, making it a prominent region for coffee production with a significant cooperative presence, especially in the lower elevations. We collaborate with several coffee-producing families in El Diamante, whose farms range from 1600 to 2000 meters above sea level. Mid-altitude farms primarily grow catuai and castillo varieties, while the higher altitudes are home to bourbon, caturra and typica. El Diamante stands out as one of the few regions in Jaen boasting protected forests, which serve a s a habitat for various indigenous flora and fauna. The region is also renowned for its numerous water sources that supply a large portion of the city's water. This vibrant natural environment not only provides a picturesque setting for coffee growth but also enriches the area's soil, contributing to its stability. The distinct cup profile of the coffees from this area is characterised by a heavily fruited cup and a marked acidity, making them uniquely memorable.
