SO HOW DO YOU PICK ROASTERS TO FEATURE?
There isn’t any real magic going on here and it’s quite straightforward. Sorry to disappoint, kids. We are looking for a few things, though.
ARE THEY PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT THEY DO?
This is important to us because we are super passionate about what we do and we want to be able to showcase like-minded people who really care about what they do, where the green coffee comes from and that they put so much love and care into the whole process. That’s what we want to share with you.
DO THEY KNOW THEIR SHIT?
Equally, we want to be able to offer you really interesting coffee. It could be something really interesting from a region that isn’t perhaps known for cranking out bangers (like the natural process Brazil Sitio Rocinha we had from Stay High, that was mad fruity!), or it could be an experimental processing method (like the honey anaerobic process from Yorks we have on right now) or even a region you would never normally have coffee from (like the wild Chinese coffee we had a while back from Elsewhere!).
ARE THEY DECENT PEOPLE?
It sounds silly and I wouldn’t blame you if you just rolled your eyes… But seriously, we don’t want to work with douchebags, even if their coffee is insane. Luckily for us, we haven’t come across any douchebags and generally speaking almost everyone we have spoken to has been extremely welcoming and friendly to us (Awwwwww).
ALRIGHT, SEEMS STRAIGHT FORWARD. DID YOU HAVE TO REJECT ANYONE?
Sometimes there are roasters who have one or two bangers at their party and that’s fine because we only want bangers at our party. There has been one occasion where we didn’t end up moving forward which was pretty hard going. Of course, we gave constructive feedback and the guys were super nice which made it even harder to deliver the news. In the end, we want our recommendations to have weight so when we showcase coffee you will know it’s a 10/10.
SO IT REALLY IS A BANGERS CLUB?
100%. Our mission is to simplify the discovery of incredible speciality coffee roasted in the UK and our vision is to be the most trusted source to discover speciality coffee in the UK. For us that means the bar is super high and it’s up to us to keep it there.
